X’po-Zure Dance Class!

Pauly Skerrett from X’po-Zure took a street dance class at the Hackney Boxing Academy today, much to the amusement of all staff and students who participated! This is running as part of the ‘Brown Bomber’ project by Hackney Music Development Trust.

Sainsbury’s Lunch Sponsorship announced!

Sainsbury’s have generously agreed to donate the cost of lunches for a year to the Tottenham Boxing Academy, to the tune of £8,000! This fantastic gesture was brokered by Kay Horne, the Tottenham Business in the Community representative.

The staff and students have been tucking into fresh sandwiches, patties, fruit, yoghurt and juices as part of their healthy eating drive in 2012. From everyone at the Boxing Academy , a big thank you to Kay and Sainsbury’s for such a marvellous gesture!.

Guardian Charity Telethon 17th December 2011

The Guardian is holding its annual Telethon to raise funds for the Christmas Appeal 2011 on 17th December. Want to speak to Alan Rusbridger? Or get fashion tips from Hadley Freeman? Radley pupils raise £23,429.16 for the Boxing Academy with sponsored bike ride

In April 2011, four Radley College pupils Charlie Rose, Theo Bromfield, Cosmo Fisher and George Rogers, completed a sponsored bike ride in the South of France.

The boys chose the Boxing Academy to be the recipient of their fundraising and we were astonished to receive a cheque for £23,429.16 from them last week at the annual boxing dinner for Haringey ABC!

Everyone at the Boxing Academy is sincerely grateful to these young men for their efforts. Honestly, we were astounded that they raised so much and and humbled that they chose our charity to benefit from their hard work. It was a selfless act of kindness and we hope they come back and visit the Academy to see how their donation has helped us later this year.

HITZ training resumes at London Fields

The Autumn sees the start of rugby training on London Fields with Max Malkin from Saracens who runs the HITZ programme. All Boxing Academy students joined Max for an hour and a half of drills and matches, and left a little bit muddy but feeling very energised!

Royal Marine Commandos visit the Hackney Boxing Academy and put the students through their paces

On Tuesday 1st November the Hackney Boxing Academy staff and students were visited by Stuart Blasby and Joe Arthurs from the Royal Marines Visibility Team.

Stuart and Joe spent the whole day with us, showing some films, demonstrating equipment and talking about their experiences of life in the Marines. They also put the students through their paces over at London Fields!

The Q&A session at the end of the day was lively, to say the least. Everyone really enjoyed their visit and we hope they come back again. We wish them well on their next tour in Afghanistan.

Best ever English GCSE results in July 2011!

We are proud to announce that 100% of our 2011 leavers are in college this September. Of special mention are two of our Tottenham students who got Cs in their English GCSE – the first in Boxing Academy history! All our students worked hard and deserve their success. We wish them the best of luck in the future.

“Before I was not going to school everyday, being rude to my Nan and the teachers, not having a good education, not letting others learn and not making my family proud of me.

Now I am in school everyday, doing good, making my family proud of me and showing everyone that I have changed. I am putting a smile on my mum and my Nan’s face and if my dad was still alive he would have been very proud of me. After I get good grades in school I would like to go college and study music and after college I would like to be a solo singer, if not to work in a zoo.”
